Hope things are going well. The people elected their false idols yesterday so I guess the next six months will stay right on script.
Something I wanted to show you unfortunately has been censored by the corporate Gods.
Soph on Censored.TV
Soph is a 15 year old girl from the Bay Area who's been making political content since she was 11. Unfortunately a lot of her earlier work is gone now since some of her latest stuff has been labeled as hate and was taken down by Youtube when she had a channel there. Censored.tv is a paid site she now makes her current content on.
The ones I'd recommend to watch include:
The Time Machine - commentary on current time repeating itself with no discernible features
How So - commentary on current culture hedonism and self improvement
Pride and Prejudice - critique on modern gay rights movements and lack of critique of paedophilic tendencies (this got her taken down from Youtube, and later she had to leave her school when parents complained about her "hate" of LGBT)
The Marketplace of Ideas - commentary on why political engagement is pointless
honeypot.net - commentary on how modern society's FOMO keeps us doing nothing productive
A few others I liked include the ones about Greta and Islam. I'd love to know your opinion on these.
One of her "children" is Cringe Panda, a young woman who's also still on Youtube but might be gone soon since they seem to be removing some of her controversial videos.
Student Reacts to DISTURBING LGBT education - TRY NOT TO CRINGE
Most of her other stuff is over on bitchute if you want to see the ones she's referencing that were taken down.
I'm kind of amazed at the level of discourse and thinking among two tween/teen young women. While I probably wouldn't go as hard core as them I admire them at least saying things that make some thinking happen.
One other thing I've been diving into is some of the self-made rappers on YT. There is a guy named Tom Macdonald who does some interesting songs and has challenged some of the traditional leftist thinking about Trump and culture at large. I know a lot of people who don't like rap and country but I still think they're some of the last genres to not be totally corporately controlled and still represent a good deal of lower income people. Poor white and Native kids in Montana on and off the reservations still look to rap since it still tells their stories.
I Hate Hip Hop
Ya know 25 years ago I was the kid who knew technology well enough to learn it and be good at it. Now kids 8-15 are learning to make full on videos to express themselves. Did you know that the winner of Album of the Year at the Grammys this year made the whole album in her bedroom with her brother? It's a great meditation on the anxiety and depression of young people, and it was done without any large record studio putting it out there.
Here's her Grammy performance the night she won.
We're getting old man. Not sure who's more scary, the 70 or 17 year olds.
My name is Tim. I'm no longer invited to any parties. This blog is for Greg Strandberg and no one else.
